Night Ritual
by Jipsé Candles + Apothecary
The first thing I do is turn down the lights and light some candles. Darkness tells the body to produce melatonin (the sleep hormone). And lighting a scented candle that makes you happy can promote sleep. Your olfactory system is directly linked to the emotional center in your brain. When your body releases feel-good, relaxing chemicals it can set the stage for a good night's sleep.
The second thing I do is soak in a warm bath with our Jipsē Relax Soaking Salts (that being said, I know that taking a bath is not really something you can do every night, but when you can it will definitely be an added benefit to your night time routine). A warm bath actually cools down your core body temperature which helps to signal the body that it is time for bed. The added benefits of aromatherapy in the Relax Soaking Salts promote relaxation, calmness, and reduce the feelings of stress. Soaking about 90 minutes prior to bedtime for around 20 minutes is optimal to support the natural circadian process happening inside of your body helping you to both fall asleep faster and have a better night’s rest.
The next thing I do is cozy up with a nice cup of chamomile tea and a little TV (a little!) For me watching reruns of The Real Housewives is a mindless journey that lulls me to dreamland. TV does not work for some, so maybe reading a book or listening to soothing music may work better for you. I also sometimes like to write in a journal or make a to-do list for the next day. It is almost like removing these thoughts from my mind by putting them on a piece of paper.
The last thing I do is use our Jipsē Pillow Spray infused with lavender, jasmine, clary sage, jasmine, ylang ylang and mandarin essential oils. I generously mist my pillows, sheets and even my pj’s. The aromatherapy oils used in the spray are the perfect cocktail for treating stress, anxiety, insomnia, tension & fatigue. After spraying and crawling into bed I like to take several deep breaths while focusing on relaxing my entire body.
Here’s wishing you many nights of sweet dreams!
