Local Skincare Journey

by Eva Rose of Modern Rose

Being a teenager I’ve spent a fair share of time having subpar or troublesome skin. That in term meant I was dropping a good amount of money trying to find skincare products to well suit my skin. I’m not the only one with these struggles. The constant picking of new products or even just paying for expensive and overpriced products, can rack up over time. In a study taken in 2020 on average women spent roughly $100 on their skin alone each month, that’s a lot of money spent on stuff that probably isn’t working as well as you want it to. Slapping a big brand name and a high price tag on a product doesn’t always make it better. Most people see a high price tag and assume it will work, that’s not always the case.

In October of 2020 I started my switch to local skincare. It started really simple with just a goats milk oatmeal soap bar from Simply Mazzaras, all their products are made with natural ingredients. After consistent use for about a week I noticed the supple smoothness to my skin.

In December of 2020 I took a workshop at Co/Create. This workshop was held by House of Datura and was about natural skin care. This is when my skin care game was upped and improved so much. I started steaming with their Leaf and Flower Facial Steam, the steam is a complete clean out. My sinuses and my respiratory system feel so open and clear and it leaves my skin glowing and fresh. I put the leftover water with a drop or two of lemon juice in a spray bottle and use it as my daily toner and refresher.

To clean my pores and add to the smoothness of my skin I use a clay mask once a week. I enjoy using my White Kaolin mask, which I will be releasing in two weeks. White kaolin clay is great to help with inflammatory issues and excess oils. I combine this amazing clay with other great, natural, anti-inflammatory fighters, along with just the right amount of moisture to not over dry the skin.

My routine is a facial oil, it’s so simple.

First, I use jojoba oil with 2 drops of lavender essential oil. That’s it, it leaves me glowing all day and not in an oily type way. Lavender is amazing for the skin. It’s great for fighting acne and contains anti-inflammatory agents.

Last, I always like to top off my skin care routine with some chapstick! Stay tuned as I will be releasing my favorite chapstick, Butter Baby along with my kaolin face mask.
